Quick deploy:

I always wanted a way to quickly deploy a satellite dish fast, and found that there was more I could do with this tripod system. Imagine you just want to play with a dish to target satellites but do not want to mount it on a wall, roof, or dig a hole. This is the easiest way I found. Lets say you are at a condo, apartment, and you want to try out your new HDTV but there is no HD signal supplied to you not supplied to you. This allows you to set up an antenna without mounting to any wall or roof which is common property. I love to use it on my deck where I can just walk outside and play, and when it is time to take it on the road, just fold it up and go.

Minor User Modifications:

One thing you have to be cautious with is if you have a type of compression clamp with teeth you might want to modify the top 12 inches of the extension pipe with some hydraulic cement to keep the pipe from crushing. I stuffed a chunk of Styrofoam down the top of the tube to keep the cement from traveling all the way down. I only needed to fill the top 12 inches. I left 1/2 inch from the top so I could get the cap back on to for Esthetics. I lest the cement cure for a day seeing it was in metal as to increase the curing time. I put the supplied sleeve on and attached a SG2100 mover. I was able to socket down pretty tight. Another method is to replace the extension tube with 1 1/2 fence pipe. Or you can make your own sleeve with a 6 inch piece if 1 1/2 fence pipe to protect the aluminium tube.

Safety:

Another thing you have to be cautious with is dish flip over in the wind. Supplied with the kit is 3 hold down clamps that accept either long deck screws or 12 inch spikes for ground applications which are also included, which is to aid you from flip over only. I have personally used the deck setup with a Winegard 76 cm. dish. When using the ground spikes always insert them in the ground at a 45 degree angle towards the center of the mount so that the legs have a more difficult time lifting out. The wind sometimes sustained 40 - 60 m.p.h. gusts in the blizzard of 2005, and have the video to prove it. Maybe the use of some sand bags draped over the the legs where they touch the ground to aid more stability would also be a good idea.

Another thing to mention is never use a satellite dish more than 20 inch above the extension adjuster for greater stability, if you use a WiFi or HDTV antenna you can go higher because these devises don't catch much wind.
